Save and manage a quote
Not every potential signing is an order yet.
A **quote** lets you keep track of an opportunity while the fee, appointment, or other details are still being decided without prematurely treating it as confirmed work.
### Use a quote before the work is confirmed
Create or save a quote when you're evaluating an opportunity but don't yet have a confirmed assignment.
This gives the opportunity a place in The NEST while preserving the distinction between:
**work you may receive** and **work you've actually accepted or scheduled.**
### Keep the available details with the quote
Record the information you know about the potential assignment.
Details may still change before the work is confirmed, and that's okay. A quote represents the opportunity as it exists at that point in time.
Update it as you learn more.
### Tentative appointment dates
If a quote has a tentative appointment date, The NEST can display it on your calendar when you enable **Show quotes on my calendar** in your calendar settings.
Tentative quote activity is kept visually distinct from a confirmed order so you can see that the time may be needed without mistaking the opportunity for scheduled work.
When the quote becomes a scheduled order, the confirmed order replaces the tentative calendar activity.
### A quote isn't income
Saving a quote does not mean you've earned the fee or completed the assignment.
It represents potential work.
Keeping quotes separate from confirmed orders prevents your operational and financial records from treating opportunities as completed business before they actually become business.
### Keep the outcome accurate
As the opportunity develops, update the quote to reflect what happened.
Some quotes become orders. Others are declined, lost, or simply never move forward.
Keeping those outcomes accurate gives you a better record of the opportunities your business is seeing — not just the assignments you ultimately complete.
