Log order and standalone mileage
The NEST helps you keep business mileage connected to the work that caused it, while also giving you a place to record business driving that isn't tied to a signing.
### Mileage connected to an order
For mobile appointments, mileage can be associated directly with the order.
The NEST uses your origin and appointment location when calculating travel information, which is why keeping your origin address current under **Settings → Profile** is important.
Review the mileage on your orders and correct it when the actual trip differs from the calculated route.
Your records should reflect the business miles you actually drove.
### Not every business trip has an order
Some deductible business driving isn't connected to a signing appointment.
Use **Standalone Mileage** to record business trips that don't belong to a specific order.
Examples might include travel for business errands, supplies, professional activities, or other legitimate business purposes.
Record enough information to identify why the trip was business-related.
### Keep mileage with your business records
Mileage recorded in The NEST feeds into your broader bookkeeping and reporting so it doesn't have to be reconstructed at the end of the year.
Keeping order mileage and standalone business mileage in the same system gives you a more complete record of the driving required to operate your business.
### Review as you go
Don't wait until tax season to try to remember where you drove months earlier.
Review order mileage when you complete your appointments and enter standalone trips while the details are still fresh.
Small records maintained throughout the year are much easier to verify than a year's worth of reconstructed travel.
