Customize your messages

The NEST includes reusable message templates so you don't have to rewrite the same appointment communications for every order.

Go to **Settings → Messages** to review and customize the messages you use with your signers and other transaction participants.

### Start with the included templates

The included messages give you a starting point, but they should sound like your business.

Review each template before using it with a real appointment. Adjust the wording, instructions, and tone to match the way you communicate with your clients and signers.

### Use order information automatically

Message templates can use information from the order to personalize routine communications without requiring you to type the same details every time.

Use the available template variables where appropriate so appointment-specific information can be inserted when the message is used.

This helps you maintain consistent communications while still sending information that belongs to that particular transaction.

### Think about the recipient

A useful message tells the recipient what they need to know without making them search through unnecessary information.

When customizing your templates, consider:

* Who receives the message * Why you're contacting them * What they need to know * Whether they need to take any action * How they should contact you if they have a question

### Test your messages

Before using your templates with a real signer, create a test order with **yourself as the signer**.

Use your own email address and mobile number, then send the messages you expect to use during a real appointment.

Seeing the message as the recipient is the easiest way to catch awkward wording, missing information, formatting problems, or instructions that made sense while you were writing them but aren't as clear when received.

Return to **Settings → Messages** and make adjustments until you're comfortable with what your signers will see.

### Update your templates as your business changes

Your communication process will evolve.

When you find yourself repeatedly adding the same sentence to a message or explaining the same thing after sending one, that's a good sign that the template itself may need to be updated.

A few minutes spent improving a reusable message can eliminate the same repetitive work from every future appointment.
